Profiting from Exciting Developments
in the Internet Landscape

Back in the 1930s, Jesuit priest and paleontologist Teilhard de Chardin imagined a future in which the Earth was enveloped in a sphere of thought. Called the Noosphere, I think we have been witnessing its emergence in the form of a global network…the Internet. If we could visualize this network from space, it would take on the appearance of a giant, spherical central nervous system that can lead to great profits as investors.

Despite its tremendous utility, this electronic central nervous system can’t do much more than think (or dream). The planet itself and the things it contains always generate data, but generally speaking, the Internet can’t “see” it without some form of sensory input. The Internet is something of a disembodied brain.

Act Before November 11 – Urgent Wealth Report with Shocking Potential

One tiny company might’ve just figured out a way to attack Alzheimer’s disease.

Fast 7,500% gains – or more – could be yours if you act before November 11. This brief presentation reveals why you must act so quickly. Watch it here.

This is changing. Intelligence is being added to more and more physical objects. Shipping containers are a good example of this. Many shipping containers have RFID tags for quick electronic identification and tracking. However, there are now attachable devices that track their location and condition through a wireless Internet connection.

These devices do more than add real-time tracking capabilities. Through on board sensors, they add the ability to know whether or not a container has been opened, and even if it has been dropped or roughly handled. The, technology, by the way, is remarkably similar to what sits inside your typical smart phone.

Futurists imagine a time in which most ordinary, everyday things will have some sort of embedded intelligence, just like shipping containers.

Imagine a smart refrigerator that knows when it needs to restock an item, and orders it for you — or perhaps a robotic lawnmower that knows when the grass needs cutting. Even mundane items like car keys won’t get lost anymore. Networked objects can tell you where they are. The development of smart power grid technology is yet another example of adding intelligence to physical objects.

Networking everyday things will radically alter the Internet in ways we can’t yet predict. It isn’t easy to grasp the potential of breakthrough technology. We can, however, see the enabling trends. For example, the newest version of the Internet’s network protocol, IP version 6, adds the ability to uniquely address 340 trillion trillion trillion (not a typo) discrete items. Such a vast address space adds the capability to network everything everybody owns, everywhere, all the time. Constantly falling semiconductor chip prices and new powerful designs make it less expensive to add networking capacity and intelligence to physical things, too.

The transformational potential of this emerging “Internet of things” isn’t lost on the world’s premier embedded and mobile chip designer. This company has created a platform to enable engineers to easily prototype new applications for the Internet of things. Called med, it includes a microcontroller, source code libraries to connect to a variety of sensors and interfaces, and an online compiler to produce the binary instructions to functionalize the devices.

This is all extremely early stage right now, but this breakthrough company is obviously leveraging its extensive expertise to position for a coming “thingternet” boom. According to their project lead this exciting new project should enable a whole new group of programmers and designers. At a cheap $60 per unit, it will open the door to garage hobbyists and engineers alike.

Tech giants like Apple got started this way, as you know. Tinkerers have already used this to create small robots that can be controlled through a web page as well as internet-enabled weather stations. One bar owner has added this new technology to his beer taps to track the amount of beer he pours each day. Another is working on automating his home beer brewing operation. As a homebrewer myself, I can appreciate the potential!

As always, I will continue to keep you updated on these exciting new technologies that are the wave of the future.

Cheers,
Ray Blanco
