LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - StemCells Inc has filed for Swiss regulatory approval for the first clinical trial of its nerve stem cells in patients with spinal cord injuries as much as a year old, the company said.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The death of a spouse or child can trigger potentially harmful rapid increases in heart rate and changes in heart-rhythm regularity, but a study showed the measures revert back to normal ranges within six months, researchers said on Sunday.

PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) - The death toll from Haiti's cholera epidemic has reached more than 900 and the disease is present in six of the 10 provinces of the earthquake-battered Caribbean country, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - People with mild heart failure lived longer and fared better by adding Pfizer's drug Inspra to standard medications, a finding that could widely expand use of such drugs in healthier patients, researchers said on Sunday.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Patients with mild to moderate heart failure benefited from an implanted Medtronic Inc device that combines a pacemaker to coordinate pumping with a defibrillator that shocks the heart if needed, according to new data that support use of the therapy earlier in treatment.
