Penny proposed to the 32-year-old ballroom babe on Oct. 4 with a 4.5 carat Asscher Cut diamond.
"We kept it quiet because my family is in New York and Brad's family is in Oklahoma so we kind of wanted them to come out and celebrate and be a family first before we let the cat out of the bag," Smirnoff told the gossip website.
Smirnoff's 32-year-old beau proposed in week three of "DWTS," after Smirnoff had performed the foxtrot with Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino.
"I had crazy hair and black lipstick on and was just concerned about looking like the Bride of Frankenstein," she told usmagazine.com. "Even after Brad got down to one knee and opened the box with the ring, it still didn't register."
Smirnoff and Pennybegan seeing each other in October of last year while he was with the San Francisco Giants, after meeting through a mutual friend, UFC's Chuck Liddell.
The Ukrainian dancer had just broken up with her previous fiancé "DWTS" co-star Maksim Chmerkovskiy a month earlier.
Smirnoff and Sitch were kicked off "DWTS" in week four.
