The British welfare system reform to break the "dependency relief" culture

The British government on Thursday (November 11) announced details of reforming the welfare system, the focus is to encourage long-term unemployed longer work.

Work and Pensions Minister Ian Duncan Smith announced in parliament the reform details. He said it was the most radical since the 1940s welfare reform.

British government said that these reform measures is to change the unemployed, "dependent on relief" mentality, as soon as possible to help them re-employment.

The new measures include a job opportunity for those who frequently benefit from a fine relief payments for the welfare of a family can receive the total amount limit, and the unity of the existing variety of employment-related relief.

Smith said that these measures will help the UK cut the budget deficit. But critics argue that the new measures is the ultimate combat poverty and the disadvantaged.

Disadvantage people with disabilities

Smith said people who receive benefits in the future if many refuse to re-employment, will likely lose their welfare benefits. In addition, some of the unemployed may be required to perform community work such as sweeping the streets. If you have a job after three years will not lose benefits.

Opposition Labor Party expressed support for the concept of encouraging people to work again, but whether there are sufficient vacancies in the labor market is questionable.

Smith criticized the parliamentary complex and the existing welfare system, money, and can easily be abused, resulting in fraudulent welfare.

He said the current system does not encourage the unemployed out of relief. The unemployed find new jobs now will lose much of the assistance, even if the new low-wage work; Therefore, unless the wages of more than unemployed people to find relief, or at least equal to the amount of work, or else they would rather rely on aid to survive.

Smith said that such relief to the unemployed trapped in the ranks of the long-term. The work of the new measures would allow low-income people continue to receive subsidies.

Other reforms include the child allowance, housing allowance, unemployment benefits, job search allowance and a series of relief to summarize the general welfare in a record.

Concerned about the disability charity Scope responded that there are people with disabilities because of fear of losing benefits may be forced to work, even if their physical can not support.
