Britain intends to introduce the "happiness index" as the core indicators of government decision-making

there have been social economists advocate a "happiness index" instead of gross domestic product (GDP) and other economic indicators, to measure a country's standard of living of the people. Reported that the British intended to become the world's first official introduction of the "happiness index" of the country, the target is to assess the status of the national mental health and the environment, the core indicators of future government policy.

British government sources, Prime Minister Cameron will be measured at the end of the drafting requirements of residents of the State Statistical Bureau, "the overall well-being" method, introduced next spring at the earliest. It is learned that "happiness index" will include more objective measurement criteria, such as how much the UK to do a total waste recovery, psychological and other more subjective measure such attitudes.

However, officials also worry that large-scale of the earlier coalition government announced austerity program, causing popular discontent, at this time, implementation of the "happiness index" I'm afraid I will not look good.

In fact, before the British, French President Nicolas Sarkozy last year, has announced its intention to happiness index into the national economic assessment, Canada has a similar investigation, but not included in official figures.
