NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stock index futures fell on Friday ahead of a shortened post-holiday session as investors fled from risk on worries that euro zone debt problems may spread.

EU denies pushing Portugal towards bailout

BERLIN/LISBON (Reuters) - European officials denied "absolutely false" reports Portugal was under pressure to seek a bailout and Spain ruled out on Friday needing help to manage its finances, despite fears of a spreading euro debt crisis.

KKR-led group to buy Del Monte for $4 billion

NEW YORK/PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Del Monte Foods Co agreed on Thursday to be bought by a group led by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co in a deal worth about $4 billion excluding debt, the latest in a flurry of private equity transactions.
